Peterbilt Playhouse

Every child dreams of a treehouse. A place to play, pretend to be an adult, and let their imaginations run wild. But for Mark and Diane Foreman's grandchildren, grandpa Mark built more than a treehouse. He transformed his lifelong fascination into a remarkable reality.

Known for his passion of big rigs and heavy equipment, Mark’s project—a treehouse resembling a Peterbilt semi-truck—showcases his dedication and craftsmanship.

Mark, a veteran and retired heavy equipment operator, project foreman, and instructor, embarked on this unique project in the spring of 2019.

“I wanted to build something I would have liked to have as a kid,” Mark said, noting one of his grandsons shares a common passion for big rigs.

With over 50 years of experience in the industry and a network of local truck drivers and scrap yards, Mark was well-prepared for the task.

The treehouse, which measures 6 feet by 5 feet and stands 5 feet tall, took about six months to complete. Mark sourced various parts and pieces, incorporating authentic truck elements into the design. The most expensive component was the Peterbilt logo, which cost $126.

The inside of the cab is equally impressive, with a dash, steering wheel, pedals and gauges.

The sleeper —a repurposed pickup truck camper—features carpeting, bunk beds, and an opening window.

“I made it for the grandkids,” Mark said. “It was a good challenge.”

After finishing the treehouse, he realized he needed a trailer for it, so he built a buckboard wagon, which he grandchildren equally appreciate.

The treehouse has become a cherished play area for his nine grandchildren, who enjoy the imaginative space their grandpa created.

Even after retiring 11 years ago, Mark’s love for heavy equipment endures.

This June, he competed at the Operating Engineers Regional Training Center in Ellensburg, where he earned second place in excavator, second place in backhoe, and third place in dozer.

Mark Foreman’s treehouse is more than just a nostalgic project; it’s a testament to his creativity, skill, and unwavering passion.

Nestled underneath the Ponderosa pine tree, Mark has built a legacy that delights his family and celebrates his lifelong love of big rigs.
