As Christmas draws near, the Samaritan Riders of Washington State continue to brighten the lives of local families during the holiday season.
Known for their charitable spirit and unwavering commitment to those in need, the Samaritan Riders are focusing their efforts on the Omak-Okanogan Christmas Basket Program through their Sam Santa program.
This year, they’re collecting monetary donations, new toys, children’s clothing, and food to help brighten the holidays for families in the mid-county area.
The Omak-Okanogan Christmas Basket Program, organized by the Omak Kiwanis and the Omak Civic League, distributes these essential items just in time for Christmas on Dec. 21 at the Agriplex at the Okanogan County Fairgrounds.
Last year, nearly 600 toys were donated to local families along with 270 food baskets - up from the average of 150-175.
The Samaritan Riders are playing a pivotal role in gathering donations, and they’ll be stationed at Walmart and North 40 every Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Dec. 15.
Sam Santa, along with past contributions to the Tonasket Tree of Giving, reflects the Samaritan Riders’ deep commitment to helping the community.
Founded in 2009 by Robert “Cool Cat” Johansen, Korie “QB” Johansen, Justin “Jiggs” Osborne, Roger “Jolly” Hammers and Justin “Hubbs” Hubbard, the Samaritan Riders were born out of a shared passion for serving their community. The group’s founders, who come from a diverse range of backgrounds and perspectives, are united by one core principle: Respect. Whether you’re a motorcycle enthusiast or not, whether you share their political views or not, all that matters to the Samaritan Riders is a mutual respect for the community and a willingness to help those less fortunate, according to organizers.
The mission of the Samaritan Riders is simple: To offer assistance to children in need. This organization, with its roots firmly planted in northern Washington, is dedicated to providing relief for underprivileged children in rural areas, especially those facing medical challenges or other life hardships.
The groups’ charitable work doesn’t stop at Christmas. Through charitable drives and fundraising, their goal is to bring joy to children all year round, ensuring that no child is left behind, regardless of their circumstances.
What makes the Samaritan Riders unique is their commitment to transparency and giving. They ensure that 90 percent of all funds raised go directly to supporting their initiatives, with only 10 percent used for operational costs. This means that donations are put to immediate use, directly benefiting the children and families they aim to serve.
Looking to the future, the Samaritan Riders aspire to expand their network, establishing charitable chapters throughout the state, and eventually on a global scale. Their long-term vision is to create a network of like-minded organizations, all focused on making a difference in the lives of children who need it most.
But for now, their focus remains on building strong local relationships and continuing to spread hope and cheer throughout the state.
So, this holiday season, consider lending your support to the Samaritan Riders of Washington. Whether through a donation of toys, clothes, or funds, your contribution will make a world of difference to those in need.
